Getting Plumbing Ready For Spring

Spring is almost here, but with a few more weeks before the snow starts melting, it’s time to start thinking about getting your plumbing ready for the warmer weather.

Here are our tips for YOUR spring plumbing prep.

Test your faucets.

First off, you’ll want to test your outdoor faucets. If you turned the water off for the winter, expect some air to come out of the pipes when you first turn the faucet on. Let it run for a few minutes and the air will work its way out and you’ll see a return to normal water pressure. If not, it’s time to call in the pros.

Take the time to test your indoor faucets as well. Check hot and cold individually and make sure there are no issues there.

Check your pipes.

Spend some time visually inspecting any exposed pipes in and around your home. With the temperature fluctuations possible in our area during the spring, the integrity of piping can be compromised which can lead to cracks, ruptures, or leakage. Take this time to look for shut off valves in your system as well. If you notice any cracks or leaks, call us right away.

Check your hose

Spring is a time for gardening, and summer means pools and slip and slides. Test your garden hose for leaks. A leaky garden hose can mean a higher water bill and a dry slip and slide. Make sure you and the kids have fun this summer.

Flush your water heater

Buildup in your water heater can and will happen, so it’s a good idea to take this time to flush your water heater. If you’re not sure how to do it, reach out and we can help. Also, if you raised the temperature of your water heater, now is a good time to lower it again.
